Make it stand out
Yet to be named:
As an idea,
The idea that keeps coming back to me is natural landscape camouflage. Everyday I am surrounded by vistas that are inspiring. Lupin and little yellow wildflowers contrast with the stark earth-tones of the hills and mountains.
The thoughts that I have constantly on Muir are sustainable and affordable, but things I would want to wear. I am not claiming to be the authority on any fashion, but if I am having a tough time finding clothing that I like, then surely there are others in the same situation.
My thoughts on sustainability are not fully developed. I am not sure what this would mean, ideally I would like to use only recycled materials to make everything. That may be costly, but getting rid of more waste is the goal.
The same goes with affordability. In a world where a quality pair of shorts costs you $80 seems irresponsible. How can you bridge the gap between being ethically produced and affordable. I would think that dropping the ego out of the equation could help, there should not be a barrier to own a Muir good, it should not be hard to get.
To limit things, I would focus on vests, both fishing and casual wear, shorts, and pants. I like the idea of being functional but also being able to wear other places. Exploring different patterns and using nature as an inspiration would be the goal. I have several patterns that I have yet to put into a medium that I would like to see produced.
The name Muir is a call to Dunsmuir, and the John Muir. This name may need exploring due to John Muir’s personal problems during his life and times. I only would use the name as a tribute to the work he did to preserve and help establish the national parks of America.
I like the idea of having things be purely unisex and non-gendered.
Selfishly I would like to produce things that you and I would wear. I know that this is the “first mistake” that people talk about. But people are not always right. If I am having a hell of a time finding thins I like, and Patagonia moving closer and closer to just making graphic tees, then surely there are people of a like mind that are looking for a source of clothing.
I have been really into vests, and i feel that they are an under-realized part of a wardrobe. Exploring materials and patterns could be interesting.

most importantly, what are you thoughts, inspirations, and desired outcomes?
